This collection is a small sample from the Alfred Deakin Prime Ministerial Library’s Australian Schools Textbook Collection, which comprises textbooks used in Australian primary and secondary schools. The full collection comprises over 20,000 titles and is considered to be of national significance.
The sample included here comprises a selection of early Australian nature texts from 1880 to 1929 covering birds, insects, fish, amphibians, mammals, botany and specific geographic locations. Specific locations include studies of the Great Barrier Reef and Werribee Gorge.
